Marfa runs through the Chihuahuan Desert in West Texas, has a population of a little over 2000 people and is one of the most beautiful stretches of desert earth. Undistilled Americana that has led it to be chosen as a film location for movies that aim to capture the remote, endless landscapes of the South; movies like Giant, There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. It's become a tourist location for the 'Marfa Lights' but what initially drew me to Marfa was Donald Judd's earth architecture here. Something about Marfa must have caught the eye of darling Miuccia because Prada chose to open up a kind of guerilla store here. The store is a conceptual piece that is constructed entirely from earth materials and acts as a sort of lightbox in this abyss. What is more amazing about this 'sculpture' is that as it is entirely natural, eventually it will disintergrate back into the earth.
